Well, it's not too bad if you disable Glass, but I've noticed that under XP my battery lasts 3 hours 16 minutes without WLAN enabled, and under Vista lasts just over 2 hours... so I see what you mean :o)

Laptop manufacturers typically spend quite a bit of time tweaking proprietary power management software tailed to very specific hardware, so it's not much of a surprise (at least to me) that the stuff that's built into the bare (+beta) OS isn't very impressive...
